Piemonte villa taranto (verbania)

Port
Via Vittorio Veneto, 111 - Verbania Pallanza
45° 55' 33" N - 008° 33' 59" E

Along the coast from Pallanza you find Isolino of San Giovanni and the promontory Punta Castagnola so named for chestnut trees that once clothed it. Between XIX and XX century, here they built villas in eclectic style with Art Nouveau.
Immediately after, you arrive at Villa Taranto, a complex of late nineteenth century that the Scottish captain Neil Mac Eacharn donated to Italian state in 1939  which became the effective owner only with the completion of the exceptional park in 1963. The park is currently managed by the “Giardini di Villa Taranto”.
The park covers 20 hectares, is one of the richest botanical gardens of Europe: huge renovation started in 1930 literally recreated the landscape that presents a wide variety of environmental situations (a small valley, avenues, flowered terraces, waterfalls, a pond, greenhouse, etc..) where they are collected over 30 000 plant specimens.
It was named by the ancestor of the captain, General McDonald appointed Duke of Taranto by Napoleon.
To the south of the park and east of the Castagnola promontory located in an elevated position stands the precious Romanesque church of San Remigio of the twelfth century.
