Location of ancient origin, documented in the tenth century, is one of the tourist destinations of the lake.
Among its monuments two important buildings: the parish church of Saints Gervaso and Protasio XI-XII century, rebuilt in six-seven hundred, with a Romanesque bell tower and the octagonal baptistery, also restored in seventeenth-eighteenth century.
With an elegant appearance, with a pleasant promenade in the garden where you can enjoy lovely views of the Borromeo Gulf and on the Lombard shore up the creek Laveno, the town boasts illustrious guests: from Lord Byron, Lamartine, the Czarina Alexandra to Queen Victoria, from Wagner to Umberto Giordano, who composed the opera house of the same name in the Fedora-house, and finally Churchill who drew some watercolours the parish church. Baveno, is also known for its pink granite quarries, open on the slopes of Mount Camoscio (890 meters) behind the town, from which flow the springs of mineral waters, known as "Sources of Baveno”.
